The central government has fixed the interest rate on EPF. This rate will be 8.25 percent for the year 2024-25. An official gave this information on Saturday. The Central Board of Trustees of EPFO had already recommended this rate. Now the government has accepted it.

This decision will benefit more than 7 crore employed people across the country. These are the people who deposit money in EPF from their salary. Last year i.e. in 2023-24 also the interest rate was 8.25 percent. That year EPFO earned Rs 1.07 lakh crore on the principal amount of Rs 13 lakh crore, which was a record. If we talk about 2022-23, the interest rate was 8.15 percent. That year Rs 91,151.66 crore was earned on the principal amount of Rs 11.02 lakh crore.

This share of Adani made 1 lakh into 18 lakh rupees in 5 years but lost only for one year.

Record of auto-claim settlement
EPFO has done 2.16 crore auto-claim settlements till 6 March 2025 in this financial year. This is also a record. Last year in 2023-24, this figure was 89.52 lakh. The auto-claim settlement means that people got their money without much paperwork.

How is the interest rate decided?
The interest rate of EPF is decided every year by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) of EPFO. This board includes owners, employees, representatives of state governments, and officials of the Ministry of Labor.

The final decision is taken by the Ministry of Finance. When the Finance Ministry approves, it is notified and then the interest money is deposited in the account of the people. Usually, this work is done in the second half of the financial year.

What was the previous interest rate?

In the last ten years, there has been a change in the interest rates of EPF. This rate was 8.65% in 2018-19 and 8.5% in 2019-20. But in 2021-22 it was reduced to 8.1%, which was the lowest in the last four decades. However, it has been increased again in the last two years.
