PF Transfer Online: Many employees are often confused about what to do with their old PF accounts after changing jobs. Some withdraw the money from the old account once a new PF account is opened. However, if you have started a new job, the best approach is to transfer your old PF balance to the new account. This facilitates easier access to all PF and pension-related benefits in the future. The good news is that you no longer need to visit the EPFO office for PF transfers; the entire process can be completed online.

When does a PF transfer take place?

If you have changed jobs and a new PF account has been created with your new company, you should transfer the balance from your old account to the new one. However, your UAN (Universal Account Number) must remain the same across both companies and must be active.

How to transfer PF online?

Log in to the EPFO Member Service Portal.
Access your account using your UAN and password.
Go to 'Online Services' and select the 'One Member - One EPF Account (Transfer Request)' option.
Verify your personal details as well as the information regarding your old and new PF accounts.
Select either your current or previous employer to verify the claim.
Submit the application after entering the OTP.
Once the application is approved, your old PF balance will be transferred to the new account.

What are the essential rules for PF transfer?

The UAN must be active.
Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account details must be linked to the UAN.
KYC formalities must be completed.
Both the old and new employers must have updated the correct information with the EPFO.
If multiple UANs have been generated, they must be merged.

How long does it take?

Transferring your old PF balance to a new account ensures you continue to earn interest and makes it easier to access benefits such as pension, PF withdrawals, and other EPFO services in the future. Frequent PF withdrawals can reduce the corpus accumulated for retirement. Typically, the PF transfer process is completed within 7 to 20 days of submitting an online application.

How to check the status?

After applying, you can check the status of your PF transfer by visiting the EPFO Member Service Portal and using the 'Track Claim Status' feature. Alternatively, you can track the progress of your application via the UMANG app.
