PF Accounts: How many PF accounts are open on one UAN? Find out in minutes, know how to merge them online..

A Provident Fund (PF) facility is provided to all salaried-income people by the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). 12% of the basic salary of the employee is deposited in the PF account. The same amount is deposited by the employer. On opening a PF account, a 12-digit number is issued to you by the EPFO. This is called Universal Account Number i.e. UAN.
Many times the employee has the misconception that if his UAN number is one, then his EPF account will also be one. This is not so, with the change of job, the new company opens a new account for you. In this way, you have many EPF accounts under one UAN. Due to having multiple PF accounts, money remains in different accounts and you cannot withdraw it even if you want to. If you are going to change your job, then get the PF account merged as soon as possible.
Actually, after joining any new company, when you give your old UAN number there, a new PF account is opened based on that. However, the amount deducted during work in old companies is not added to the new PF account. In such a situation, the person who has a PF account has to go to the EPFO website and merge the account (EPF Account Merge). After the merger, all your money will come into the PF account opened by the current employer.
How to know how many PF accounts you have?
First of all, go to the EPFO portal.
Login by entering your UAN number, password, and captcha.
Now click on the passbook option.
Go to the member ID option in it.
Here all the PF accounts with your UAN will be visible.
How to merge PF account online
PF accounts can be merged both online and offline. For the online process, first, go to the official website of EPFO https://www.epfindia.gov.in/.
Now go to the services option here. There you will see One Employee One EPF Account, on which you have to click.
Now a form will open to merge the PF account, for which you will have to enter the mobile number registered with the PF account.
After this, UAN and current member ID will have to be filled. After filling in the complete details, OTP will come on the registered mobile number for authentication.
After submitting the OTP, you will see the details of the old account. After this, fill in the PF account number and submit it.
Now your request to merge the account will be accepted. Later, as soon as the verification is done, the account will be automatically merged.
The current employer will have to approve.
If you want to do the offline process, then for this you will have to download and fill Form 13 from the EPFO website. Then the current employer will approve your account merger application. After this, EPFO will merge your old account into the new account. Once you complete this process, you can check its status by visiting the EPFO website.
