EPFO Service History Feature: Changing jobs for better career growth is very common these days, but every new job often results in the creation of a new PF Member ID. Years later, when people switch jobs, they often forget about their old Provident Fund (PF) accounts or lose the details associated with them.

Employees often realize this only when they attempt to transfer their PF, withdraw funds, or apply for a pension. To address this issue, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a 'Service History' feature on its unified portal. This feature allows you to view all your old and new accounts linked to your Universal Account Number (UAN) in one place.

How to check 'Service History' on the EPFO portal?

The process of locating old PF accounts is simple and digital:

First, visit the EPFO Member e-Sewa Portal.
Log in using your UAN and password.
After logging in, click on the 'View' tab located in the top menu.
Select the 'Service History' option from the drop-down menu.
Upon clicking, a list of all your jobs will appear on the screen, clearly displaying the names of current and former employers, Member IDs, joining dates, and exit dates.

Why is it important to check Service History?

Missing exit dates: Often, previous employers fail to update the date of leaving the job. Checking your service history allows you to immediately identify which company has a missing exit date, enabling you to get it corrected in time.

Detecting duplicate UANs: According to the rules, an employee should have only one UAN throughout their career. However, new employers sometimes generate a second UAN. By checking your service history, you can verify whether all your jobs are linked to the same UAN. Avoiding Claim Rejection: Claims for PF withdrawal or transfer are often rejected due to data mismatches. Reviewing your service history allows you to rectify errors beforehand.

Ensure KYC Details Are Updated

Simply logging into the portal and viewing your service history is not enough; you must also verify the KYC details in your profile. Ensure that your Aadhaar, PAN, bank account number, and mobile number are correct and up-to-date. Even a minor error in bank details or the spelling of your name can lead to delays and additional paperwork during PF transfers or withdrawals.

Activating Your UAN is the First Step

If you have not yet activated your UAN, you must visit the e-Sewa portal to do so in order to avail of these services. Once your UAN is activated, you can access various features—such as viewing your online passbook, filing claims, and updating your profile—from the comfort of your home.
