Petrol Pump Fraud: Do you feel that you are being given less oil at the petrol pump? Know those easy and effective tips by which you can avoid oil theft every time. These measures will also protect your pocket.

Petrol Pump Fraud: Nowadays petrol prices are skyrocketing, and in such a situation every drop is precious. But have you ever wondered whether petrol is being stolen from you? Many times at the petrol pump, we are quietly given less oil without telling us. If you are also troubled by this fraud, then adopt these measures and save yourself from being cheated.

Park the vehicle near the machine.

If the pipe remains stretched, then oil may remain trapped in it. To avoid this, stop the vehicle near the machine. This small step can save you from petrol theft.

Get oil filled with zero-meter

Always check the reading of the machine before filling the oil. Tell the pump operator to start filling petrol only after bringing the meter to “0”. This is the most important step, which most people miss.

Do not fill petrol worth ₹ 100-₹ 200 first.

Beware of the scheme of filling petrol worth ₹ 100-₹ 200 first at the petrol pump. Sometimes this is a trick by which the quantity of oil is reduced from you the next time. Always fill the oil by telling the full amount at one time.

Keep an eye on the condition of the nozzle

If the nozzle button is pressed halfway, then the flow of fuel going into the vehicle tank slows down and less oil can be filled. In such a situation, be careful while filling fuel.

The remaining oil in the pipe should go into the tank only

Tell the fuel filling staff to keep the nozzle in the tank for 2-3 seconds after filling the oil in the tank, so that the remaining oil in the pipe also comes out.

Make sure that the full amount of fuel has been filled

Sometimes the pump operator gets distracted and fills fuel worth ₹300 instead of ₹500. So keep a close eye on the screen and pay only when the amount is over.

Do not fill fuel in round figures

The chances of fraud increase if petrol is filled in round figures like ₹100, ₹200. It is better to fill fuel in figures like ₹132, ₹264, ₹571, ₹1234. That is, take fuel after confirming both the money and the litre.

Are you filling just air?

Sometimes the machine does not start properly and just air goes out. You can also feel the change by driving immediately after filling fuel. If you have any doubt, do complain.

Record video from mobile

If you have any doubt about any petrol pump, then start making a video from your mobile. This will keep the pump operator cautious and reduce the chances of fraud.

Pay more by UPI or card than cash

When you pay by UPI or card, the transaction is recorded, so that in case of any kind of fraud or dispute, you can provide evidence in your favor.

Keep an eye on mileage

Track the mileage of your vehicle every time you fill petrol. If you see a difference in mileage at different pumps, then understand that something is wrong.

Do not hesitate to lodge a complaint, it is your right

Whenever you suspect fuel theft at a petrol pump, ask for a complaint book from the petrol pump manager and lodge a written complaint. You can also lodge a complaint by visiting the website / app of IOC, HPCL or BPCL. This will not only protect your interests, but other customers will also be saved from fraud.
