Petrol & Diesel Price Today: Fuel Rates Remain Stable in Delhi, Mumbai and Other Major Cities

 |

Petrol and diesel prices across India remained largely unchanged on May 22, 2026, after a slight increase earlier this week by oil marketing companies. Fuel prices in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad continued to stay at elevated levels amid ongoing volatility in global crude oil markets.

The latest stability in fuel prices comes at a time when global crude oil markets are witnessing sharp fluctuations due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Concerns over supply disruptions, uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, and rising crude prices have continued to influence domestic fuel costs in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently expressed concern over rising fuel consumption during a public address in Hyderabad, following which fuel prices were revised twice by oil companies. Even after recent adjustments, petrol prices in cities such as Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad continue to remain above ₹100 per litre.

Why Fuel Prices Increased Recently

Last week, petrol and diesel prices were increased by nearly ₹3 per litre across India. Before the revision, petrol in Delhi was priced at ₹94.77 per litre, while diesel was available at ₹87.67 per litre.

According to reports, public sector fuel retailers raised prices to partially offset losses caused by rising international crude oil prices. Ongoing geopolitical instability in West Asia has pushed crude prices higher and created uncertainty around global oil supply chains.

Brent crude prices recently crossed the $109 per barrel mark amid fears of supply disruption related to tensions involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. Although crude prices briefly eased after reports that former US President Donald Trump delayed a possible military move against Iran, oil prices continue to remain significantly higher compared to earlier this year.

Global Crude Oil Volatility Impacting Indian Fuel Rates

Energy market experts believe domestic fuel prices could continue witnessing fluctuations if geopolitical tensions persist. Any disruption in shipping routes or oil exports from major producing regions may further affect petrol and diesel rates in India.

Consumers are therefore advised to regularly monitor updated fuel prices in their respective cities before planning long-distance travel or commercial transportation activities.
