Pension Schemes: The introduction of schemes like National Pension System (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has led to significant growth in the Indian pension sector in the current financial year. According to the Economic Review 2024-25 presented on Friday, the total number of contributors in the Indian pension sector increased by 16 per cent year-on-year to 7.83 crores by September 2024. The total number of pension contributors in September 2023 was 6.75 crores.

The review states that the number of beneficiaries of Atal Pension Yojana among the total pension contributors registered by September 2024 has increased to 6.29 crores from 5.38 crores in March 2023. This also includes data from the former version of APY 'NPS Lite'.

The Economic Survey states that the share of women shareholders in APY will increase to 52 percent in FY 2023-24, from 37.9 percent in FY 2015-16.
