Pension for Widows and Persons with Disabilities in Chandigarh Doubled to ₹2,000
The Chandigarh Labour Welfare Board has increased the monthly pension for widows and persons with disabilities. Additionally, female employees will now receive a maternity benefit of ₹21,000, and a fixed deposit (FD) will be opened in the name of their newborn child.
In Chandigarh, the pension for widows and persons with disabilities has been raised from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000. This decision was taken during the 9th meeting of the Chandigarh Labour Welfare Board. Furthermore, the maternity benefit has been set at ₹21,000, and under the Digital Education Scheme, ₹25,000 will be provided for the purchase of a laptop.
Moreover, during the meeting—chaired by Labour Secretary Anuradha S. Chagti—the scope of the 'Kanyadaan' (marriage assistance) scheme was expanded. Scholarships will now also be provided to employees pursuing self-study. This initiative is expected to benefit thousands of labourer families.
Previously, the pension for the elderly, widows, and persons with disabilities in Chandigarh stood at ₹1,000, and there had been long-standing demands for an increase. The objective behind this decision is to provide financial support to those in need, enabling them to better meet their essential requirements.
Launch of the Digital Education Scheme
The Board has also introduced a 'Digital Education Scheme.' Under this, eligible individuals will receive ₹25,000 for the purchase of digital devices or laptops. It should be noted that this financial assistance will be provided only once in a lifetime. Furthermore, the benefits of these schemes will be subject to specific terms and conditions.
Financial Assistance for Marriages
Under the 'Kanyadaan' scheme, unmarried female employees will now be eligible for financial assistance for their weddings. Additionally, scholarships will be offered to employees engaged in self-study. In essence, financial support is now available for various life stages—from education to marriage. However, it is necessary to meet the terms and conditions to avail the benefits of these schemes.
Support for female employees
Most importantly, under the maternity benefit scheme, eligible female employees will receive financial assistance of Rs 21,000. This amount is intended to cover salary-related needs and nutritional requirements. Additionally, there is a provision to open a fixed deposit (FD) in the name of the newborn child.
FD in the name of the newborn
In addition to maternity support, a fixed deposit (FD) of Rs 10,000 will be opened in the name of the newborn child. This offers several advantages: the FD will earn interest, and upon maturity, the principal amount along with the accrued interest will be available. This fund can be utilized for the child's future.
What are the benefits of this decision by the Board?
Firstly, the increase in pension means that in addition to the existing annual benefit of Rs 12,000, an extra Rs 12,000 in assistance will be provided.
Furthermore, it ensures financial security for both the mother and the newborn.
The fixed deposit for the newborn will serve as savings for the child's future.
Additionally, financial assistance will be provided for the purchase of a laptop for educational purposes.
Support will also be extended for various needs, ranging from self-study expenses to wedding costs. In short, this decision by the Board offers a wide range of benefits.
