PayTm Update: Will PayTm UPI be closed from August 31? The company clarified..

After a notification from Google Play, the news spread rapidly on social media that Paytm UPI will be closed after August 31. This caused panic among the users. But Paytm has made it clear that one-time payments made through UPI will not be affected.
What will change?
The company said that the change is only for those who make recurring payments, i.e., the amount is deducted automatically every month (such as YouTube Premium, Google One Storage, or other subscriptions) through Paytm UPI. Now the old @paytm handle will have to be replaced with a new bank-linked handle. For example, if your ID was rajesh@paytm earlier, now it will become rajesh@pthdfc or rajesh@ptsbi (depending on the bank).
What will not change?
Payments at shops, sending money to friends, bills, or online shopping payments - all these normal UPI transactions will continue as before, there will be no interruption in them.
Why did Google Play's notification come?
Google Play gave this alert because it is necessary to update recurring payments to a new UPI handle by August 31, 2025. From September 1, the old @paytm handle will not be valid on Google Play. This rule will be implemented at the instructions of NPCI.
What should users do now?
Users making subscription payments should update their handle to a new bank-linked ID.
If you want, you can use other UPI platforms like Google Pay or PhonePe.
Or you can also set up auto payment with a debit/credit card.
What is UPI
The full form of UPI is Unified Payments Interface. It is a real-time payment system, with the help of which you can send money to anyone directly from your bank account or ask for money from them, that too 24×7 and immediately. In this system, every user has a UPI ID (eg abc@upi), just like an email address. You can send money just by scanning the mobile number, UPI ID, or QR code. In this system, there is no need to remember IFSC code or account number. You just have to enter a PIN (UPI PIN) for the transaction.
