WhatsApp can now be used to pay essential everyday bills. Users will be able to settle bills for various services from a single location and easily locate frequently used billers. Let’s take a closer look at this new feature.

You can now pay essential bills—such as electricity, water, and gas—directly through WhatsApp without needing to open a separate app. Meta’s WhatsApp has launched this service in collaboration with the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network. This feature allows users to pay 30 different types of bills, covering over 22,700 billers.

Payments for electricity, water, gas, FASTag, insurance, credit cards, and loan installments can all be made on WhatsApp. Additionally, WhatsApp is introducing features that allow users to easily view details of past bills and previous payments.

Pay Bills via WhatsApp Without Switching Apps

You no longer need to leave WhatsApp to pay your bills. Simply tap the '₹' icon at the top of the app's home screen to access the 'Payments' section. From there, select your bill category, search for the service provider, and enter the required account details.

Once you enter the details, WhatsApp will display the outstanding bill amount. You can review the full bill details before making the payment. Payments can then be easily completed using UPI, a debit card, or a credit card.

Easily Access Past Billers and Categories

Paying and managing bills will become much simpler. Much like how Paytm displays previously paid billers for quick access, WhatsApp will show past billers on the 'Payments Home' screen. This eliminates the need to search for the biller's name every time. You can also link multiple accounts for the same biller.

For instance, you might have separate electricity bills for your home and office, or you may need to pay electricity and water bills for a family member. This allows you to link multiple accounts from the same biller and manage all your bills easily.

Additionally, the types of bills you pay frequently will automatically appear on the 'Payments Home' screen. If you need to pay a different type of bill, you can select 'See All' to view all available bill categories.

How to pay bills on WhatsApp:

First, open WhatsApp and tap the ₹ icon located at the top of the home screen.
Next, select the category and the biller for the bill you wish to pay.
Enter the required account details and confirm them.
Review the bill amount and other details displayed on WhatsApp.
Choose your payment method; you can pay using UPI, a debit card, or a credit card.
Finally, confirm the payment.
