The company has launched a 'Bill Payments' feature in India that enables users to view, manage, and pay various bills without leaving the app, eliminating the need to switch to other platforms. This feature is being rolled out gradually in India and will become available to Android and iOS users in the coming weeks. What is WhatsApp's new Bill Payments feature?

WhatsApp's new Bill Payments feature operates on the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network. It gives users access to 22,722 billers across 30 different categories, including electricity, water, gas, FASTag, insurance, credit cards, and loan repayments. According to the company, this feature expands the scope of WhatsApp's existing payment services, which previously supported facilities like mobile recharges and other transactions.

How to pay bills using WhatsApp

To pay a bill, first open WhatsApp and tap on the rupee icon located at the top of the home screen. Select the appropriate bill category and biller based on your needs. Next, enter the required customer or account details and confirm them. Once the details are entered, WhatsApp will automatically display the bill amount. After verifying the amount and bill details, the user can make the payment using UPI, a debit card, or a credit card.

Manage multiple bills in one place

The new feature also includes a 'Household Bills Summary.' This displays previously paid billers, allowing for quick access with a single tap for future payments. Users can also manage multiple accounts under the same biller. Additionally, popular bill categories will be displayed on the Payments Home screen, while the 'See All' option will allow users to view more than 20 categories.

How will the feature reach users?

WhatsApp's Bill Payments feature has not yet been rolled out to all users simultaneously; the company is introducing it gradually in India. It will be made available to more users on Android and iOS in the coming weeks.
