Passport Fees: We all know how essential a passport is for international travel. Nowadays, almost every other person possesses a passport. Previously, it was also viewed as a crucial identity document for Indian citizens. However, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has recently clarified that a passport is not considered a government identity proof.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that fees for issuing and renewing passports may change starting July 1st. This has raised questions among the public: if a passport is lost, stolen, or damaged, how much will it cost to get a new one? Let’s find out.

What is the fee if the passport is lost?

Under the new rates, if your passport is lost, stolen, or damaged for any reason and you need to get a new one, you will have to pay the fee according to the revised rates. According to the new fee structure, if a standard 36-page passport is lost, stolen, or damaged, the fee will now be ₹5,000. Previously, this fee was ₹3,000; it has now been increased by ₹2,000.

Similarly, the fee for a 60-page passport that is lost or damaged has also been raised. You will now have to pay ₹6,000 for it. Previously, this fee was ₹3,500, but starting July 1st, it will see an increase of ₹2,500.

It is worth noting that the passport is one of the most essential documents for traveling abroad. Consequently, if it gets lost or damaged, not only could travel plans be disrupted, but the cost of obtaining a new passport has also risen significantly. Therefore, passport holders must take great care of their documents and keep them safe to ensure there are no obstacles to any travel plans.
