Passport Application Process: In the past, obtaining a passport was considered a rather difficult and time-consuming task; however, thanks to digital systems, this process has now become significantly easier.

If you wish to travel abroad, pursue studies, or seek employment overseas, a passport is your most essential document. Without a passport, you cannot travel outside of India. While obtaining a passport was previously considered a difficult and time-consuming endeavor, the advent of digital systems has streamlined the process significantly. You can now apply online from the comfort of your own home. So, let's find out exactly how you can apply for a passport without leaving your house.

To apply for a passport from home, the first step is to visit the official 'Passport Seva' website. Once there, click on "New User/Register Now" and fill in your basic details—such as your name, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID. After entering this information, create your account. Upon completion, you will receive a unique User ID and Password.

After registering, log in to the portal and select the "Apply for Fresh Passport" option. You will then need to fill out a form requesting your personal details, residential address, and information regarding your parents. Ensure that you fill in all details accurately, as making changes later on can be difficult.

Once the form is filled out, you must keep your essential documents ready—such as your Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Proof of Address, and Birth Certificate. These documents will be required later during the verification process.

Next, click on "Pay and Schedule Appointment." You can then select the Passport Seva Kendra nearest to your location and book a specific date and time for your appointment.

You are required to pay the applicable fee while booking your appointment. The fee for a 'Normal' passport is approximately ₹1,500, while a 'Tatkaal' (expedited) passport may incur a higher fee. You can make the payment using a Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI. After completing the payment, download the receipt for your records.

On the scheduled date, visit the Passport Seva Kendra, ensuring you carry all your documents with you. At the center, your details will be verified, followed by a police verification process. Once the entire process is complete, your passport is sent to your home address.
