PAN (Permanent Account Number) card is an important identity card issued by the Income Tax Department of India. It is required to open a bank account, pay taxes, and obtain loans. Generally, this card is issued to adults, but minors (under the age of 18) can also apply for it, especially for educational and financial purposes.

PAN card application for a minor is done by his/her parent or legal guardian. The process is the same as for adults, although some additional documents are required.

Online Application Process

Visit the NSDL website: NSDL PAN Services.

Choose “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)” and select “Individual”.

Fill in the minor’s name, and parent’s contact details and click on “Submit”.

Choose the option to upload the required documents and select if a physical PAN card is required.

Fill in the minor and parent details, then upload the documents.

Pay the application fee through a debit card, credit card, or net banking.

You will receive an identification number after the payment.

If you have opted to submit physical documents, send the documents to the Income Tax PAN Service Unit in Pune.

Documents required for minor PAN card

Age proof: Aadhaar card, birth certificate, passport, or school mark sheet.

Address proof: Passport, voter ID, Aadhaar card, or utility bill less than 3 months old.

Offline application process

Download Form 49A from the NSDL website.

Fill in all the required details correctly.

Attach the document with identity proof, address proof, birth proof, and two passport-size photographs.

Submit it to the nearest PAN center (TIN Facilitation Center) and pay the application fee.

PAN card for minors is an important financial tool that helps parents to manage their child's financial affairs effectively. As soon as the child becomes an adult, this PAN card remains valid for all future financial activities.
