Just like the Aadhaar card, the PAN card is also an important document. It is needed for filing ITR and many other important tasks. Many times, when the PAN card is lost, people get another PAN card, and later if their first PAN card is also found, then the person has two PAN Cards.

According to the rules of the Income Tax Department, a person should have only one PAN card. If by mistake you have two PAN cards, then correct this mistake in time and surrender the duplicate PAN card. If the Income Tax Department comes to know about this, then you can get into trouble. Know the way to surrender the PAN card.

More than one PAN card can be made in these situations.

Many times people apply for a PAN card and it does not come within the stipulated time limit, then they apply again. In such a situation, many times two PAN cards can be made. If the person applying for PAN checks the status of PAN online instead of applying again, then this situation will not arise.
If there is any kind of mistake in the PAN card, then many times people apply for a new PAN card instead of getting it corrected. In such a case also, a person ends up having two PAN cards.
If a woman changes her surname after marriage, then many times she applies for a new PAN card, and due to this, she ends up having two PAN cards. Instead of this, they should get the correction done in the existing PAN card.
Some people may apply for multiple PANs to cheat the government or save money.

What will the Income Tax Department do?
According to the rules of the Income Tax Department, if a person has two PAN cards, then a fine of Rs 10,000 can be imposed on him or he may have to serve a minimum sentence of 6 months, or both punishment and fine can also be imposed.

This can also be a loss.
Apart from this, having two PAN cards can spoil your credit profile. Actually, before giving the loan, the bank verifies your documents. In such a situation, many times if a person has two PAN cards, he can be considered a fraud and his loan can be rejected. In such a situation, many times the bank can also blacklist him.

If you have two PAN cards, surrender one.

You can surrender the PAN card both online and offline. To surrender online, you have to go to the NSDL website.

After this, from the Application Type drop-down, choose the Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card (No changes in existing PAN Data) option.

Fill out the form and submit it. After submitting the form, your request will be registered. After this, a token number will be sent to your email ID.

Note down the token number and continue the process by clicking on Continue with PAN Application Form given below. Now a new webpage will open. On this page, choose the option of Submitting scanned images through e-Sign.

In the bottom left corner of the page, you will have to fill in the details of the PAN card that you want to keep with you. Fill in the required information and then select the option of Next.

Then upload the required documents like photo, signature, address, identity card, etc. Make payment wherever required. After payment, you will see a receipt to download. Download it and keep it safe.

Now send two photographs along with a copy of the receipt to the NSDL office. Before sending the receipt, label the envelope with the Application for PAN cancellation and the receipt number. Also, send a letter to the officer who listed the duplicate PAN information and request him to cancel it.
