PAN-Aadhaar Linking: Aadhaar is used for your identification, while the PAN card is essential for tax and salary-related matters. The government has made it mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar and has also set a deadline for it. Let us tell you how you can link your PAN with Aadhaar.
PAN-Aadhaar Linking: Only 9 days are left until the last date for linking PAN and Aadhaar, so taxpayers across the country need to take quick action. If your PAN is not linked to Aadhaar by January 1, 2026, your PAN will become inactive. Those whose Aadhaar was issued on or before October 1, 2024, must link their PAN with Aadhaar by December 31, 2025. Failure to do so will render the PAN inoperative, which can make essential banking transactions and filing income tax returns difficult.
Why is linking PAN to Aadhaar necessary?
Linking PAN to Aadhaar is very important. If you take it lightly, it will create problems for you. If you haven't linked your PAN and Aadhaar yet, you won't be able to file your Income Tax Return (ITR). Not only that, many bank account-related transactions and large transactions may also be stopped. Investing in mutual funds, shares, bonds, and insurance may also become difficult.
In addition, applying for personal loans, home loans, or any loan at a low-interest rate will become problematic. Most importantly, if your PAN becomes inactive, a higher TDS may be deducted from your earnings, which will directly impact your finances.
How to link PAN with Aadhaar?
First, go to the official Income Tax website (https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/).
On the homepage, you will see the 'Link Aadhaar' option; click on it. Now, on the page that appears, enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
An OTP will then be sent to your mobile phone; enter it to complete the verification.
It's important to note that if your PAN is already inactive, you will have to pay a penalty of ₹1000 to link it. After making the payment, you can check your status by going to the Quick Links section on the website and clicking on Link Aadhaar Status.
