PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline Extended Till December 31, 2025 — But Only for These Individuals

If you applied for Aadhaar before October 1, 2024, and your PAN card was issued based on the Aadhaar enrolment ID, here’s some good news for you. The government has extended the deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar till December 31, 2025, but only for individuals who meet this specific condition.

This extension comes as a relief for those whose PAN cards were generated using the Aadhaar enrolment ID from an older Aadhaar application. Such individuals now have more time to ensure their Aadhaar number is updated with the Income Tax Department records.

What About Everyone Else?

For all other PAN card holders, the last date to link Aadhaar without a penalty was June 30, 2023. Anyone who missed that deadline must now pay a ₹1,000 penalty to complete the linking process. This fee-based linking option is still available and must be done to avoid future complications with PAN validity.

How to Link PAN with Aadhaar?

There are two primary methods for linking PAN with Aadhaar:

1. Online Method:

You can visit the official Income Tax Department website and complete the process digitally. This is the most convenient and time-saving option for most users.

2. Offline Method:

You can also link PAN and Aadhaar by visiting any NSDL or UTIITSL service center. You’ll need to fill out the Annexure-I form and submit photocopies of both your PAN and Aadhaar cards.

⚠️ Important Note: Before linking, make sure that your name, date of birth, and gender are exactly the same on both PAN and Aadhaar. Any mismatch in details can lead to rejection of the linking request. If there are discrepancies, you must correct them first in either PAN or Aadhaar records.

Who Should Take Note?

This update is especially relevant for new PAN holders whose cards were issued based on their Aadhaar enrolment details. They don’t need to panic—they now have until December 31, 2025, to complete the Aadhaar-PAN linking without a penalty.

However, if you don’t fall into this exempted category and still haven’t linked your PAN and Aadhaar, it’s strongly advised to do so immediately by paying the applicable fine. Delaying further can lead to problems such as your PAN becoming inoperative, which could affect your income tax returns, bank transactions, and other financial services.

Why Linking PAN and Aadhaar Matters

The PAN-Aadhaar linking initiative aims to curb tax evasion and ensure a transparent, digitized financial ecosystem. It helps consolidate individual financial records and prevents duplicate PAN cards under multiple identities.

Final Words

If you are among those who received their PAN based on Aadhaar enrolment before October 1, 2024, take advantage of this extended deadline. For everyone else, avoid future hassles and penalties by completing the linking process as soon as possible.

Stay compliant, stay stress-free!
