Over 25,000 Jobs Announced by Department of Posts; 10th-Pass Candidates Can Apply

Under the ‘GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026’ released by the Department of Posts, appointments will be made to more than 25,000 posts across various postal circles and divisions. The application process will be conducted in two stages.

India Post has issued a notification for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill over 25,000 vacancies across different postal circles and divisions nationwide. The posts include Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak. Notably, there will be no written examination for these positions; instead, candidates will be selected based on a merit list prepared using their 10th-grade marks.

Application Process in Two Stages

The application process under the ‘GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026’ will take place in two stages. First, candidates must complete a ‘One-Time Registration’ (OTR). The OTR process begins on August 31, while the online application and fee submission process starts on September 2, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Interested candidates can submit their applications until 5:00 PM on September 21, 2026.

10th-Pass Candidates Eligible to Apply

To be eligible for GDS recruitment, candidates must have passed the 10th standard. They must have secured passing marks in Mathematics and English. Additionally, candidates must have studied the designated local language of the respective circle up to at least the 10th-grade level. Candidates are also required to possess basic computer knowledge and the ability to ride a bicycle. The age limit for recruitment is set between 18 and 40 years, calculated as of the application deadline; however, candidates belonging to reserved categories will receive age relaxation.

Positions for Appointment

Appointments will be made for three types of posts under this recruitment drive. A Branch Postmaster will be responsible for managing the respective branch post office. Meanwhile, Assistant Branch Postmasters will assist the Branch Postmaster (BPM) with tasks such as mail delivery, the sale of stamps and stationery, and other operational duties. As Dak Sevaks, they will be responsible for handling mail and parcels, selling stamps, and performing other post office functions. Details regarding the number of vacancies—broken down by circle and division—will be made available to candidates on the GDS Online Engagement Portal. Candidates will be able to select their preferred division and post during the application process.

Merit Based on Class 10 Marks

A key feature of the GDS recruitment process is that no written examination will be conducted. Candidate selection will be based on a system-generated merit list derived from marks obtained in Class 10. Marks will be calculated up to four decimal places. Candidates shortlisted in the merit list will undergo verification of their original documents, followed by a medical examination and the completion of other formalities. The application fee for these posts is set at ₹100 for all categories; however, female candidates, as well as those belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and transgender women categories, are exempt from the fee.

How ​​to Apply

Candidates must first visit the GDS Online Engagement Portal to complete a one-time registration. Subsequently, they must log in using their registration number and password to apply against active notifications. During the application process, candidates will need to enter personal details, Class 10 academic information, and their preferences for the division and post. Candidates must then upload their photograph and signature in the prescribed format. Those liable to pay the application fee must submit it online. A correction window will be opened on September 23 and 24 to allow for any necessary amendments to the application.
