Over 1,000 Flights Cancelled Due to ATC System Failure

More than 1,000 flights have been cancelled in the UK due to a malfunction in the air traffic control system, causing chaos at airports across the country and leading to the buildup of large crowds.

Air traffic across the UK was severely disrupted after a major technical fault in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system led to the cancellation of over 1,000 flights by late Tuesday night. This information was revealed by the flight monitoring website Flightradar24.

The UK's National Air Traffic Services stated that the issue with their flight processing system was resolved by yesterday evening; however, the impact of the delays was felt at more than 15 airports nationwide as airlines and airports scrambled to clear the massive backlog of grounded flights.

Passengers Stranded for Three Hours

Josie Donoghue, a passenger bound for Ireland, remained stuck on a Ryanair plane for three hours before her flight was eventually cancelled. She remarked, "Trying to get out of that airport was like trying to escape from Alcatraz." Alcatraz is a prison in San Francisco known for such tight security and surveillance that escape is considered impossible.

Like Donoghue, many other passengers appeared distressed and bewildered at airports; not only had airlines failed to provide advance notice of the cancellations, but the accumulation of large crowds also created a chaotic atmosphere.
