Operation Sindoor: Government gives strict instructions to Airtel, Jio, BSNL, Vi, telecom companies on alert regarding network security..

Tensions between the two countries are at their peak after India gave a befitting reply to the Pahalgam terror attack and took action against terrorist bases in Pakistan under 'Operation Sindoor'. Keeping this situation in mind, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued immediate strict instructions to all government and private telecom companies regarding disaster-level preparedness and network security. This order has been given to keep the network secure, especially given possible cyber attacks.
Ensure uninterrupted connectivity and network operations.
According to the Money Control report, the instructions issued by the Ministry of Communications state that all major companies like Airtel, Jio, BSNL, and Vi should work in coordination with each other so that network operations are not disrupted and users do not face any service disruption. Apart from this, in the high-level meeting held after Operation Sindoor, telecom companies have been asked to prepare an updated list for the security of infrastructure, especially in the border area, so that quick action can be taken in case of any emergency.
Special instructions to maintain the network in the border area
In a letter sent to all telecom companies by the Disaster Management Division of the Ministry of Telecommunications on May 7, it has been said that special efforts should be made to ensure that there is no disruption in the operation of BTS locations within 100 km of the international border. Apart from this, all operators have to ensure that connectivity is maintained at the Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) set up at the state and district levels.
Strict adherence to SOP is mandatory.
DoT has clearly stated that all telecom operators should strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued in 2020 and implement it with immediate effect. Also, the department has directed all its LSA (Licensed Service Area) heads to coordinate with the state governments and ensure uninterrupted logistical movement of telecom companies in case of a disaster.
Intra-circle roaming will provide a solution to the network.
In such disaster situations, intra-circle roaming service is started by telecom companies, so that in case of disruption of one network, customers can make calls from their number using the network of another operator. For example, during the cyclone in Orissa last year, telecom companies had adopted this system, which provided relief from the network problem. This system ensures that people can stay in touch during a disaster and the communication system is not disrupted.
