LPG e-KYC Rules: Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, various reports concerning LPG supplies have been circulating across the country. While concerns regarding supply availability persist in some quarters, panic among the public has led to changes in booking patterns elsewhere. Amidst this scenario, considerable confusion had arisen regarding LPG e-KYC—specifically, whether it was mandatory for every customer to undergo biometric verification linked to their Aadhaar card.
The Ministry of Petroleum has now clarified the situation, stating that the new rule does not apply to everyone. Find out exactly who is required to complete the LPG e-KYC process—is your name included in this list? Also, learn about the simple steps involved in completing the e-KYC.
Who Is Required to Complete LPG e-KYC?
According to the government, e-KYC is mandatory only for those LPG customers whose accounts have not yet been authenticated. If you have already completed your e-KYC in the past, there is no need to undergo the process again. Significantly, this is not a new regulation;
rather, it represents a continuation of an existing process. Meanwhile, consumers enrolled under the PMUY (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana) are required to complete e-KYC once a year—specifically to ensure they continue receiving their designated subsidy. In other words, for regular customers, this process is not as complicated as it was being portrayed.
Will Gas Supply Be Discontinued If e-KYC Is Not Completed?
Considerable apprehension also prevails among the public regarding this issue. However, the government has clarified that failing to complete e-KYC will not have a direct impact on gas supply. This means that even if you do not complete the e-KYC process, the supply of your gas cylinder will not be completely cut off. However, issues may arise regarding the subsidy component. The primary objective of e-KYC is to eliminate fraudulent connections and ensure that the benefits reach only genuine consumers. Therefore, this applies to those whose verification remains pending. They should complete this process in a timely manner.
