In today's digital scenario, we get a lot of facilities, especially through smartphones, through which you can do many things at your fingertips, but with these facilities many problems have also come up, such as online scams, through which scammers steal your hard earned money, understanding these problems and to protect you from them, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has implemented measures to block handsets and disconnect mobile numbers. Blocking fraudulent devices and numbers:

DoT has blacklisted 52 institutions involved in sending malicious and phishing SMS messages.

A total of 348 mobile handsets have been blocked across the country, and 10,834 suspicious mobile numbers have been flagged for re-verification.

User complaints as the catalyst:

These actions were taken due to user complaints reported through various channels, which the DoT confirmed in response to a social media inquiry.

Public awareness and reporting:

The DoT emphasized the importance of reporting suspected fraud. They have already blocked 20 handsets used for cybercrime and financial fraud.

Action against fake connections:

Since April 30, 2024, the DoT has disconnected 1.66 crore mobile connections, with over 30 lakh connections terminated based on user feedback about suspicious activity.

How to report telecom fraud

Visit: Sanchar Sathi's website

Navigate to: “Citizen Centric Services” and select “Report suspected fraudulent communication”.

Input details:

Enter your mobile number or email and verify with the OTP sent to you.

Select the type of communication (call, SMS, or WhatsApp) and fill in the details including the sender's number, date, time, and any relevant screenshots.

Submit: After entering all the required information, click the "Submit" button.
