The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has made a big change in the rules of Futures and Options (F&O) expiry. Now the weekly and monthly expiry dates of Nifty, Bank Nifty, Finnifty, Midcap Nifty, and Nifty Next 50 have been changed. Earlier all these expiries used to happen on Thursday, but now they will be completed on Monday. This change will be effective from April 4, 2025.

NSE issued an official circular and gave this information. According to the exchange, the expiry of Nifty weekly contracts will now happen every Monday. Apart from this, the monthly, quarterly, and half-yearly derivative contracts of Nifty will also now expire on the last Monday of that month. The same rule will also apply to other index derivatives like Bank Nifty, Finnifty, Nifty Midcap Select, and Nifty Next 50. Also, all the monthly expiry dates of stocks have been changed from Thursday to Monday.

Market experts believe that this change can lead to a big change in the trading pattern. Especially option traders will now have to make their strategy according to the new schedule. Changing the expiry day can also affect the level of volatility in the market. However, NSE has clarified that no changes have been made in other terms of derivative contracts, only the expiry day has been changed.

Earlier, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) had also changed the expiry date of some of its derivative contracts. BSE had made the expiry of Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 to Tuesday, which came into effect from January 1, 2025. Now NSE has also made changes, due to which there are different days of expiry in both exchanges. Meanwhile, the Indian stock market is witnessing a continuous decline. Nifty is suffering losses for the 10th consecutive session, which is one of the longest declines in its history. Sensex also closed with a decline for the third consecutive day. How long will this volatility in the market continue remains a matter of concern for investors?
