There is a major update for those investing in the National Pension System (NPS New Rules 2026). The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has announced the implementation of several significant changes effective April 1, 2026. Due to these changes, nine key NPS services will remain suspended for a few days, potentially impacting lakhs of subscribers.

The most significant change involves the 'Multiple NAV Framework,' which will come into effect on April 1. This implies that, henceforth, a distinct Net Asset Value (NAV) will apply to different categories of investors (government and non-government) within the same scheme. This modification is being introduced to facilitate a more precise adjustment of Investment Management Fees (IMF) and Point of Presence (PoP) charges.

What is the Major Change?
The most crucial change is the 'Multiple NAV Framework,' which will be effective from April 1, 2026.
A single scheme will now feature different NAVs.
Separate fee structures will apply to government and non-government subscribers.
Investment Management Fees (IMF) and PoP charges will be adjusted with greater precision.
This is expected to make the system more transparent and equitable.

Why Will Services Remain Suspended?
The Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA) platforms and Pension Funds are currently updating their systems. Consequently, transactions have been temporarily suspended for a brief period. 9 NPS Services That Will Remain Temporarily Suspended:

Inter-CRA Shifting: March 25 to April 1
Portfolio Rebalancing: March 28 to April 1
Subscriber Shifting: March 27 (10:30 AM) to April 1
Error Correction (including GPF Withdrawals): March 31 (10:30 AM) to April 1
NPS to UPS Migration/Claims: March 27 to April 1
One-Way Switch: March 27 to April 1
Preference Change: March 27 to April 1
Withdrawals (Exit, Tier II, Partial Withdrawal, Family Pension): March 27 to April 1
NPS Lite to APY Migration: March 27 to April 1

What is Important for Investors?
If you need to execute any urgent transactions, please complete them beforehand.
No requests will be processed during this period.
All services will resume starting April 2, 2026.
Overall, this change is being implemented to make the NPS system more robust and transparent. However, subscribers may experience some minor inconvenience in the interim.
