E-Sign Required for Deleting Names from Voter Lists
The Election Commission has now added a new feature for removing names from the voter list. Without this feature, no one will be able to remove their name from the voter list. The Election Commission has added the new e-Sign feature to the EC1NET portal and app. If a voter wishes to remove their name, they will need to verify their identity using their Aadhaar-linked phone number. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently held a press conference alleging misuse of the Election Commission's online deletion form. This decision was taken by the Election Commission.
How will the process be carried out?
With the introduction of the e-Sign feature by the Election Commission, the process for removing and adding names will change slightly. Anyone wishing to remove their name from the voter list will need to enter the required information in Form 7 and then be directed to an e-Sign portal hosted by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).
The CDS portal, which operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, requires voters to enter their Aadhaar number and then click on Generate Aadhaar OTP. Verification will be complete after entering the OTP received on their mobile number. They will then need to return to the ECINET portal and submit the form.
