Google Safety Charter: Google has taken a big initiative to strengthen digital security in India. During the 'Safer with Google India Summit' held on Tuesday, the company announced its new 'Safety Charter'. This initiative aims to make the country safe from online fraud, strengthen the cyber security of government and corporate structures and promote responsibly developed AI technology.

This charter has three main objectives,

To protect internet users from fraud and scams

To strengthen cyber security for governments and companies

To develop AI systems that ensure the safety of people.

Big role of 'DigiKawach' program

A program called 'DigiKawach' is playing an important role in this mission of Google, through which AI-based tools and awareness campaigns have reached more than 17.7 crore Indians so far. Google Search's AI capabilities are now identifying 20 times more scam websites than before. At the same time, scam attacks on customer service and government platforms have decreased by 80% and 70%.

Messaging and payment security

Google Message is blocking more than 500 million scam messages every month. At the same time, Google Pay has sent more than 4.1 crore warnings so far, which could prevent fraud worth Rs 13,000 crore in 2024.

App and email security

Google's Play Protect feature has been active in India since October 2024 and since then the installation of about 6 crore dangerous apps on 1.3 crore devices has been prevented. Gmail, which is used worldwide, is automatically blocking more than 99.9% of spam, phishing and malware.

Massive strengthening of cybersecurity

Google is now using AI to identify cyber threats before they occur and sharing that information with governments and other companies. Its Project Zero team, in collaboration with DeepMind, identified dangerous flaws in popular software like SQLite before hackers did.

Investments and partnerships

Google.org has announced a $20 million donation to the Asia-Pacific Cybersecurity Fund, of which $5 million will go to The Asia Foundation. This will set up 10 cyber clinics in the region, including India, and in collaboration with Indian universities, students and small businesses will be trained in digital security. Apart from this, a partnership has been made with IIT Madras on post-quantum cryptography, which will make it easier to deal with future cyber challenges.

Google's goal

Google India's country manager Preeti Lobana said that winning the trust of people is important for India's digital progress. At the same time, Google Security Vice President Heather Adkins said that AI is now identifying scams that were never seen before, and its ability to learn and respond quickly is now getting ahead of the attackers. This move by Google is a big effort towards taking India towards a secure digital future.
