What is this new feature?
This new option has been seen in WhatsApp's Android beta version 2.25.18.11. The name of this feature is "Auto-download quality", that is, you can choose in which quality the photo or video should be downloaded automatically when it arrives.
You will find this option in WhatsApp settings like this:
Settings > Storage and data > Auto-download quality
Here you will find two options:
Standard Quality
HD Quality
What is the difference between the two qualities?
Standard Quality: In this, the file size of photos and videos is smaller. That means it takes less data, it downloads quickly and the phone's storage is also less filled.
HD Quality: In this, the details of the photos and videos are retained and the quality is good, but it takes more data and more storage is also required.
The user will have full control
If you have set standard quality, then WhatsApp will automatically download the files in the same quality, but the good thing is that you can also view or download any photo or video manually in HD quality.
How is this new update connected to the previous feature?
Recently WhatsApp started the dual-upload feature, in which when someone sends a photo or video, the app uploads both its versions (standard and HD) on the server. Now with the help of the new feature, the receiver can himself decide which quality of file should be downloaded on his phone.
When will this feature be available?
