November 25 Bank Holiday Update: Will Banks Stay Open in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh? Here’s the RBI’s Clarification

 |
BANK

As November 25 approaches, many people in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are wondering whether banks will remain open on Tuesday. The confusion stems from the public holiday declared in both regions to observe the martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur. While schools, colleges, and government offices will remain shut, the big question is—will bank branches also be closed? Here’s what the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has clarified.

Delhi & Uttar Pradesh Announce Holiday on November 25

The Uttar Pradesh government recently shifted the holiday for Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom day from November 24 to November 25. Delhi has also declared the same day as a public holiday. As a result, all government offices, public and private schools, and colleges in both regions will remain closed on Tuesday.

Since all state government departments will be shut, many assumed that banks would also remain closed. But the situation is different for banking services.

Will Banks Be Closed on November 25? RBI Issues Important Update

Despite the regional holiday in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the RBI’s official bank holiday calendar does not list November 25 as a bank holiday in either state. This means:

Banks will remain open in Delhi on November 25

Banks will also operate as usual in Uttar Pradesh on November 25

The RBI has not issued any notification instructing banks to remain closed on this day. Therefore, customers can visit their branches on Tuesday without any concerns about closures. Only educational institutions and government offices will stay shut.

Why is Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Martyrdom Day Significant?

Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, is remembered for his extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting religious freedom.
In 1675, he stood against injustice and tyranny, laying down his life to defend the rights and faith of Kashmiri Pandits and uphold the principle of religious liberty for all.

Every year, his martyrdom day is observed with devotion and respect across the country. Although the holiday usually falls on November 24, this year the date was shifted to November 25.

Schools to Remain Closed in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, all schools will be closed due to the change in the holiday date. Private and government schools alike will remain shut on November 25, following the official announcement by the state government.

Bank Holiday List for November 2025

Here is a quick overview of the remaining bank holidays for November 2025:

  • 30 November – Sunday (weekly holiday)

Most other holidays earlier in the month were location-specific, including:

  • Kannada Rajyotsava

  • Guru Nanak Jayanti

  • Nongkrem Dance Festival

  • Bihar Assembly Elections

  • Wangala Festival

  • Kanakadasa Jayanti

RBI holidays vary from state to state based on local festivals and events. Therefore, even when a region observes a public holiday, it may not necessarily affect banking operations unless RBI includes it in the official list.

Bottom Line: Banks Will Operate Normally on November 25

Despite the widespread confusion, the situation is now clear:

Banks in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh WILL NOT be closed on November 25.

Only schools, colleges, and government offices will observe the holiday.

If you have urgent banking work—whether transactions, document submissions, or account-related procedures—you can safely visit your branch on Tuesday without any disruption.
