But now, simply having an account is not enough. If your IRCTC account is not linked to Aadhaar, you may face problems booking tickets.

The railways have made Aadhaar verification mandatory to make the booking system more secure and transparent. Especially for Tatkal and early bookings, it will be difficult to get tickets without an Aadhaar-linked account. Therefore, if you travel by train, it is crucial to complete this process in time.

How to link Aadhaar with IRCTC?

According to the new railway rules, only those whose IRCTC accounts are Aadhaar-verified will be able to book tickets in the first 15 minutes after online ticket booking opens. This rule has been in effect since October 1, 2025. Now, Aadhaar-verified users are allowed to book general reserved tickets from 8 AM to 12 AM on the first day of the advance reservation period.

The aim is to curb fake accounts and increase the chances of ordinary passengers getting confirmed tickets. The railways believe that linking Aadhaar will curb bots and touts, making the system more reliable. Therefore, if your account is not yet linked to Aadhaar, you may miss out on booking tickets during crucial times.

How to link Aadhaar to your IRCTC account?

Linking Aadhaar to your IRCTC account is quite easy. First, log in to the official IRCTC website or mobile app. After logging in, go to the My Account section and click on the Authenticate User option. Now you will see an option to enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID. After filling in the details, click on Verify Details.

After this, you will receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. Once you enter the OTP, your Aadhaar will be linked to your IRCTC account. After linking, log in again. If a green tick appears next to your username, it means your account has been verified with Aadhaar. You can also check the status in the My Account section.
