Road Accident Treatment Scheme: The worry of treatment after accidents will soon be over. The central government is soon going to launch a cashless treatment scheme for victims of road accidents. Learn the details.

Road Accident Treatment Scheme: Every year, approximately 5 lakh road accidents occur in the country, resulting in the deaths of around 1.8 lakh people. A large number of fatalities also happen because the injured do not receive timely treatment. The biggest problem after an accident is the lack of money. Hospitals often demand payment before starting treatment. Sometimes, there is no one with the injured person, and even if there is, it becomes difficult to arrange such a large sum of money immediately. To solve this major problem, the central government is going to introduce a new cashless treatment scheme. According to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon launch this scheme nationwide, so that people injured in road accidents can receive treatment without delay.

What types of accidents will this scheme cover?

This scheme will apply to all types of road accidents involving the use of a motor vehicle. Whether it's a highway, a city road, or a village road, if an accident involving a vehicle occurs anywhere, the victim will be entitled to cashless treatment under this scheme. It will not matter what type of accident it was or what type of vehicle was involved. As soon as the accident occurs,

the injured person can be admitted to a designated hospital, and there will be no need to pay money upfront for treatment. The biggest advantage of this will be that ambulances, the police, or ordinary people will be able to take the injured person to the hospital immediately without any fear. Timely treatment will significantly increase the chances of survival in serious cases. The government's clear objective is that treatment should not be delayed due to lack of money.

How much cashless treatment will be provided?

The Ministry of Road Transport launched a pilot project of this scheme from Chandigarh on March 14, 2024, which was later extended to six states. Under the Road Accident Victims Cashless Treatment Scheme, 2025, each victim will receive cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh per accident for a maximum of seven days from the date of the accident. So many people have already benefited

According to figures presented in the Lok Sabha, requests for treatment have been received in 6,833 cases so far, of which 5,480 victims were found eligible. More than ₹73.88 lakh has already been spent on treatment from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund. The government believes that this scheme, once implemented nationwide, will help save thousands of lives.
