The government has launched a new Aadhaar app designed to prevent the misuse of Aadhaar cards. This app comes equipped with various features, allowing you to secure your Aadhaar card with just a single tap.

The UIDAI launched this new Aadhaar app earlier this year, replacing the older 'mAadhaar' app. The new version has been built with enhanced security. It also offers several services that can be accessed from the comfort of your home—tasks that previously required a visit to an Aadhaar enrollment center. With incidents of identity theft and cybercrime involving Aadhaar on the rise, this app provides a quick and easy way to protect your Aadhaar card from misuse and prevent identity theft. All it takes is a single tap within the app.

Lock your biometrics with a single tap:

First, install the new Aadhaar app on your phone.
Log in to the app using your Aadhaar number.
Once logged in, tap on the 'Services' option provided at the bottom.
Here, you will find options to update your address or mobile number, as well as an option to lock your biometrics.
If your biometric lock is not yet enabled, simply tap on it to activate it.
Similarly, you can disable the biometric lock by accessing the same option in the app.

This allows you to easily lock and unlock your Aadhaar card's biometric data. To further enhance security, the UIDAI has included a 'SIM binding' feature in the new app, which helps prevent the misuse of your Aadhaar card. Therefore, when logging into the app, ensure that the SIM card associated with your registered mobile number is inserted into the device you are using. The new Aadhaar app allows you to add your own Aadhaar profile along with 5 additional profiles; in other words, you can link the Aadhaar numbers of 5 family members to a single mobile number. As for its features, the app enables you to update the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card from the comfort of your home—there is no need to visit an Aadhaar center.
