The objective of these schemes is to assist economically disadvantaged, meritorious, and special-category students in continuing their education.
Special Scholarships for Postgraduate Students
The UGC’s “University Rank Holder Scholarship” is quite popular among students pursuing postgraduate courses like MCA. This scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated outstanding performance at the undergraduate level and have continued their studies.
Additionally, the “PG Indira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship” is available. This scheme is designed for female students who are the only child of their parents and are enrolled in a regular postgraduate course. Financial assistance is provided under this scheme to enable these students to complete their education without financial hardship.
Benefits for Reserved and Special Categories
Various state governments operate Post-Matric Scholarship schemes for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). In many states, including Uttar Pradesh, the Social Welfare Department administers these schemes. These scholarships provide financial assistance for tuition fees, examination fees, and other academic expenses. Eligibility requires the family’s annual income to be below a specified limit.
Merit-cum-Means Scheme for Minority Students
The Central Government’s Merit-cum-Means Scholarship scheme is available for students belonging to minority communities, such as Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis. This scheme provides financial assistance to students pursuing technical and vocational courses.
How to apply?
Students must register on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for government scholarships. Obtaining a One-Time Registration (OTR) number is the first necessary step.
