No freedom from spam calls, 95% Indians are falling prey to it daily, survey reveals
The problem of spam calls and messages is increasing day by day in the country. Despite the efforts of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), this problem remains as it is. A recent survey has shed light on this growing concern, which revealed that about 95% of Indians are now dealing with unwanted calls and messages daily. The situation has worsened significantly in the last six months, and even the DND (Do Not Disturb) feature on phones has proved ineffective in preventing such calls.
A survey conducted by Local Circles shows that 95% of mobile users in India are now receiving spam calls every day. Scammers are also adopting new tricks to dupe people. According to the survey, 77% of mobile users receive at least three spam calls per day. These calls are mainly related to home loans, credit cards, and other financial services. The survey shows that the number of such cases has increased from 54% to 66% in the last six months.
The DND feature that blocks these calls is no longer effective. People are getting annoyed with the constant spam calls and messages. On the other hand, scammers are finding new ways to dupe people. TRAI is planning to take decisive action on this issue. The regulatory body had earlier directed telecom companies to curb promotional messages, with an initial deadline of September 1. However, now this deadline has been extended to October 1, 2024.
TRAI is committed to cracking down on fake and spam calls soon. The authority has said that if an entity is found misusing its SIP/PRI lines for spam calls, all its telecom resources will be disconnected by its Telecom Service Provider (TSP). In addition, the violating entity will be blacklisted.
