New Services on 5 Superfast Trains; AI-Based Cleaning Introduced on 2 Vande Bharat Trains
The Railways has launched an initiative to implement AI-based cleaning monitoring across five trains, including two Vande Bharat Express services. A two-hour turnaround target has been set to address and resolve passenger complaints.
This new initiative aims to enhance cleanliness and amenities for rail passengers. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced technology-driven onboard services across five superfast trains.
Under this system, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be used to assess cleanliness standards. Additionally, a two-hour target has been established to ensure prompt action on passenger complaints.
How will AI and digital systems improve cleanliness?
The objective of this new system is to increase the accountability of cleaning staff and ensure continuous monitoring of coach hygiene. Measures such as geo-tagging, staff tracking, and digital monitoring are being employed. AI-based assessments will evaluate the quality of cleaning, allowing for the identification and rectification of any shortcomings.
Furthermore, the initiative focuses on ensuring the cleaning of coaches and AC windows, the maintenance of toilets, proper waste disposal, and the timely distribution and collection of bed sheets and other linens.
Which 5 trains have introduced this new system?
This railway initiative covers five trains, including two Vande Bharat Express services. The trains are as follows:
Kamakhya–SMVT Bengaluru Express
Guwahati–Kolkata Garib Rath Express
Dibrugarh–Mumbai LTT Express
New Jalpaiguri–Patna Vande Bharat Express
New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express
According to the Railways, these services commenced on the Guwahati–Kolkata Garib Rath Express on October 10 and on the Dibrugarh–Mumbai LTT Express on October 11. Meanwhile, a new system was implemented on three other trains starting October 14.
What is the Railways' objective?
The objective of this initiative by the Northeast Frontier Railway is to provide passengers with a cleaner and more comfortable travel experience. Through digital monitoring, AI-based evaluation, and prompt action on complaints, the Railways expects to improve onboard services. Currently, this system has been implemented on five selected trains.
Action on passenger complaints within two hours
During their journey, passengers may face issues related to water shortages, cleanliness, or other basic amenities. Under the new system, specific teams have been tasked with addressing these complaints on a priority basis.
The Railways has set a two-hour target for the resolution of complaints. If an issue is not resolved within this timeframe, there is a provision to escalate the matter to the relevant senior officials. Passenger feedback and star ratings will also help in assessing the quality of services.
