Why were the mobile number portability rules changed?

The change in the mobile number portability rules has been done to eliminate fraud related to SIM swap and replacement.

According to TRAI, a SIM swap or replacement is a process in which a new SIM is purchased due to the loss or non-functioning of the old SIM. This SIM is given to the old customer on the same number as the old SIM.

With mobile number portability rules, customers can switch from one service provider to another without changing the number.

There have been 8 changes in the mobile number portability process.
