New Rule: If you want to avail the LPG subsidy, complete this important task before October 1st..

Domestic LPG customers across the country will be required to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to continue booking subsidized cylinder refills starting October 1, 2026. The government announced this in a statement on Saturday.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the move aims to ensure that subsidized cooking gas reaches genuine domestic households and is not diverted for commercial or industrial use. The statement added that this measure would also help eliminate duplicate and ineligible connections and bring greater transparency to the subsidy distribution process.

The Ministry reported that as of September 19, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG customers (representing 89.9% of the total customer base) have already completed the authentication process and require no further action; their refill bookings will continue without interruption.

For customers who have not yet completed the BAA, bookings for subsidized refills will be processed only after authentication is completed.

Three ways to complete the process:
- At the time of delivery, where the delivery person can perform the authentication using the respective Oil Marketing Company's (OMC) mobile app.

- At the distributor's showroom.

- From the comfort of home using the OMC's mobile app.

Indane customers can complete the e-KYC process themselves using the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas customers via the HelloBPCL app, and HP Gas customers via the HP PAY app. The statement noted that video tutorials explaining the process have also been made available on the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana portal.

LPG customers can still purchase cylinders without BAA.
The government clarified that customers who do not wish to undergo biometric authentication, or are unable to do so, will still be able to purchase LPG but will not receive the subsidy.

Such customers will need to indicate their preference through the OMCs' digital channels—such as web portals, mobile apps, WhatsApp chatbots, or IVRS. Subsequently, they will be provided with 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders at market price by the respective OMC, subject to availability.

The deadline for completing the BAA was initially set for June 30, 2026, but it was extended multiple times to allow customers more time. It was successively extended to July 31, August 7, August 15, August 23, August 31, September 7, and finally to September 14.
