New rule effective from November 1: Caller’s real name to appear alongside their number
If you are troubled by unknown or fraudulent calls, a major change is coming to your mobile phone starting November 1. From this date, the caller’s real name will appear on your screen the moment your phone rings.
If you are tired of receiving constant unknown or spam calls throughout the day, there is some great news for you. A significant new regulation concerning mobile calling will come into effect nationwide on November 1. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed all telecom operators—including Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, and BSNL—to implement the 'Caller Name Presentation' (CNAP) system.
With this new rule in place, whenever you receive a call from an unknown number, the caller’s real name will automatically appear on your mobile screen alongside their phone number. Previously, users had to rely on third-party applications like Truecaller to identify unknown callers. However, starting November 1, this feature will be provided directly through your telecom network—without the need for any additional apps or an internet connection—offering a major benefit to all mobile users.
