New PF System: Now PF Account Holders Can Remove Incorrectly Linked IDs from UAN – Step by Step Process

The Universal Account Number (UAN) plays a crucial role for employees managing their Provident Fund (PF) accounts. However, if an incorrect member ID gets linked to a person's UAN, it can create significant problems. To resolve this issue, the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has now introduced a new feature that allows users to delink wrongly attached IDs from their UAN.
EPFO Introduces a New Facility for UAN Holders
Every Provident Fund (PF) account holder is assigned a Universal Account Number (UAN) by EPFO, which serves as a unique identifier for accessing EPF details, tracking contributions, and managing PF-related tasks. Employees are well aware of its importance, but if an incorrect member ID gets linked to their UAN, it can become a major concern.
To address this issue, EPFO released a circular on January 17, 2025, introducing a new feature that allows account holders to delink any wrongly linked member ID that was attached to their UAN without their knowledge. If you are facing this issue, here’s how you can remove an incorrect ID from your UAN, following the process outlined by EPFO.
Important Requirement Before Delinking an ID
Before you proceed, make sure that your Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active, as you will need it to receive OTP verification during the process.

Step-by-Step Process to Delink an Incorrect Member ID from UAN
If you find an incorrect ID linked to your UAN, follow these steps to remove it:
- Log in to the Unified Member Portal using your credentials.
- Verify your identity by submitting the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
- Navigate to the View menu and select Service History.
- Identify the incorrect member ID linked to your UAN and click on Delink.
- A confirmation prompt will appear—click OK to proceed.
- On the next page, select the reason for delinking the incorrect ID.
- You will see two consent boxes—click on them to generate an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Enter and submit the OTP to complete the process.
- Once confirmed, the incorrect ID will no longer appear in your Service History.
This new feature by EPFO ensures that users have greater control over their UAN accounts, allowing them to correct errors and prevent unauthorized linkages.
