EPFO’s New Update: Easily Remove Wrongly Linked Member IDs from Your UAN

The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced a new facility allowing Provident Fund (PF) account holders to delink incorrect member IDs from their Universal Account Number (UAN). This step aims to enhance security and accuracy in managing PF accounts.

What is UAN and Why is It Important?

  • Universal Account Number (UAN) is assigned to every PF account holder.

  • It helps in tracking EPF details and ensures seamless fund transfers.

  • Incorrectly linked member IDs can create issues, causing financial discrepancies.

New Feature: Delinking Wrong Member IDs

The EPFO circular dated January 17, 2025, provides a new feature where members can remove any wrongly linked member ID without requiring employer intervention. However, the mobile number linked to Aadhaar must be active for verification.

Step-by-Step Process to Delink an Incorrect Member ID from UAN

  1. Login to the Unified Members Portal and verify using OTP.

  2. Navigate to the View Menu and select Service History.

  3. Identify the incorrect member ID linked to your UAN.

  4. Click on Delink and confirm the action.

  5. Select the reason for delinking on the next page.

  6. Two Consent boxes will appear. Click to proceed.

  7. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

  8. Submit the OTP to complete the process. The incorrect ID will be removed from your service history.

Final Thoughts

This new feature by EPFO makes it easier for employees to correct errors in their UAN records without hassle. If you have an incorrectly linked member ID, follow these steps to ensure your PF account details remain accurate and secure.
