New Rules From July 1, 2026: Several major rules affecting the daily lives of the general public are set to change starting July 1, 2026. These changes will impact gas cylinder prices, Aadhaar updates, railway travel, income tax, CNG/PNG costs, and credit card users across various banks. It is essential to be aware of these rules in advance to avoid any inconvenience later.

What is changing?

Several government and banking regulations will come into effect from July 1. The most significant changes include—

Rule What Will Change?
Aadhaar Update Demographic details, including email address, can be updated free of cost.
LPG Prices New prices for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders will be announced.
Railways Fines for ticketless travel and other rule violations will increase.
Credit Cards Several banks have revised the rules for airport lounge access and reward points.

What’s new with Railways and Aadhaar?

Indian Railways will crack down on rule-breakers starting July 1. The minimum penalty for ticketless travel will be raised from ₹250 to ₹500. Male passengers traveling in coaches reserved for women could face a fine of up to ₹2,500. Higher penalties may also apply for traveling on another person's ticket, traveling in a sleeper coach with a general ticket, unauthorized vending, creating a ruckus, traveling under the influence of alcohol, and violating rules within railway premises. Meanwhile, UIDAI has announced that from July 1 to December, updating details on Aadhaar cards—such as name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, and email—will be free of charge. Previously, a fee of ₹75 was charged for this service.

Who will feel the financial impact?

As happens every month, government oil companies will announce new prices for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders on July 1. Changes in the prices of CNG, PNG, and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) are also possible. A price hike could increase kitchen and travel expenses, whereas a reduction would bring relief.

What rules regarding credit cards and taxes should you keep in mind? The deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the financial year 2025-26 for salaried individuals and taxpayers falling under the non-audit category is July 31. Meanwhile, the deadline for depositing TDS for the April-June quarter has been set for July 7.

Additionally, banks have made changes to their credit card policies.

HDFC Bank Regalia Gold cardholders will now need to spend a minimum of ₹60,000 in the preceding quarter to avail of complimentary domestic airport lounge access in the following quarter.

YES Bank has raised the spending threshold for lounge access from ₹10,000 to ₹35,000 per quarter for several of its cards.

Starting July 1, HSBC will stop awarding reward points on government payments, insurance premiums, taxes, fuel, wallet loads, and utility bills.

The migration of Citi credit cards to Axis Bank will be completed by July 15. While the card number, PIN, CVV, and expiry date will remain unchanged, reward points will be reflected on the Axis Bank platform, and interest rates will apply according to Axis Bank's policies.

If you use these services, it would be beneficial to familiarize yourself with these changes, which come into effect on July 1.
