New LPG Rules (August 2026): Changes to LPG gas cylinder prices and regulations are typically observed at the start of every month. Once again, gas companies and the government have introduced several new updates for LPG customers. These cover rules regarding e-KYC, new gas connections, subsidies, gas booking, delivery, and Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
If you use LPG cylinders or piped gas at home, it is important for you to be aware of these changes. Failure to comply with certain rules could lead to difficulties in booking gas or receiving subsidies. Conversely, some of the new changes will offer greater convenience to customers.
**Failure to complete e-KYC could cause issues**
It has now become mandatory for LPG customers to complete Aadhaar-linked e-KYC. Those who have not yet completed this process should do so as soon as possible. Failure to complete e-KYC within the stipulated timeframe could temporarily disrupt gas cylinder bookings. This process can be easily completed through the gas agency or the gas company's mobile app.
**Faster access to new gas connections**
Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) has launched the ‘Bharat Lite Zip’ service. This service enables faster acquisition of new LPG connections and speeds up cylinder delivery. Currently, this facility is available in Mumbai. The company plans to roll it out to 100 additional cities across 24 states by August 15.
Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, HPCL has partnered with Swiggy Instamart to launch home delivery for 10kg 'HP Navya' and 5kg small LPG cylinders. This service is considered ideal for students, small families, and apartment residents.
**Updates on Ujjwala Yojana subsidy and cylinder prices**
Changes have been made to the subsidy rules under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Eligible beneficiaries will now receive a subsidy on only four LPG cylinders per year. For any cylinders purchased beyond this limit, the full price must be paid by the consumer. According to news agency ANI, there has been a significant reduction in the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders effective August 1. In Delhi, the price has been reduced by ₹202. However, there has been no change in the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders.
In July, there was no change in the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders. However, the price of 19 kg commercial gas cylinders was reduced by approximately ₹170 to ₹182 across various cities, providing relief to hotels, restaurants, and other small business owners.
**New rule for PNG users**
If a customer switches from LPG to a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection, they must surrender their old LPG connection within 30 days. This rule applies to customers of Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas. If the customer later moves to an area where PNG facilities are unavailable, the LPG connection can be reactivated following the prescribed procedure.
**Changes in gas booking and delivery**
The process of booking and delivering gas cylinders has become more digitized. At the time of delivery, customers must provide the OTP or delivery code sent to their registered mobile number; the cylinder will not be delivered without it.
The mandatory interval between bookings remains unchanged. The next gas booking can be made after 25 days in cities and 45 days in rural areas. Gas companies have urged customers to complete all necessary procedures, including e-KYC, on time to avoid any issues regarding gas service, booking, or subsidies.
