New Insurance Policy Rules: What You Need to Know
Insurance Policy Rules: The IRDAI has approved new regulations concerning insurance. Every policy will now bear the agent’s name; action against mis-selling will be easier, and policyholders will benefit from enhanced protection and transparency.
Insurance Policy News: Whether you are planning to purchase a new insurance policy or already hold one, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has approved several new rules. These changes aim to provide greater security to buyers, ensure transparency, and curb the practice of mis-selling policies.
Agent’s Name on Every Policy
A major change is that every insurance policy will now be linked to the name of the official salesperson or agent who sold it. If a customer later complains about mis-selling—such as being provided incorrect information or having crucial details withheld—it will be easy to identify exactly who sold the policy. This will increase the accountability of agents and brokers, ultimately benefiting the customer.
The IRDAI has also approved the creation of a ‘Policyholders’ Education and Protection Fund.’ The objective of this fund is to educate the public about insurance, improve grievance redressal, and help channel unclaimed insurance funds to their rightful beneficiaries. This will also make it easier for policyholders to stay informed about their rights.
Stricter Rules for Agents and Brokers
Additionally, regulations for insurance agents, brokers, and other intermediaries have been tightened. They will now be required to share more information and adhere to specific guidelines. However, to facilitate ease of doing business, the requirement for frequent registration renewals has been eliminated; they can now operate under a fixed registration arrangement by paying an annual fee.
The IRDAI has also approved a new penalty system for rule violations, which will streamline and improve the enforcement process. Additionally, regulations governing the investments, finances, and operational practices of insurance companies have been revised to enhance the quality of insurance and safeguard customer interests.
Policyholders stand to gain the most from these new regulations. The process of purchasing insurance will improve, taking action against complaints regarding mis-selling will become easier, and customers will receive better service and enhanced security.
