Netflix Launches 'Clips': Short Videos to Play Like Reels on Mobile
Netflix Launches Clips: Netflix has introduced a new vertical video feed within its mobile app, designed to show users short clips related to movies and TV shows.
Netflix Launches Clips: You can now watch short, vertical videos—much like Reels—on the streaming platform Netflix. To enable this, the company has launched a vertical video feed feature called 'Clips.' This tool will allow users to discover new content. Notably, Netflix has been actively working to enhance its mobile user experience, and this new video feed is an integral part of that ongoing effort. 'Clips' is initially being rolled out in India, the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa. Over the coming months, it will be launched for users in other countries as well.
How Does the 'Clips' Feature Work?
The demand for short-form videos has surged over the past few years, leading to the immense popularity of platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. Recognizing this trend, Netflix is now looking to make its entry into this segment. However, 'Clips' operates somewhat differently; instead of user-generated content, it features clips taken directly from Netflix's own library of movies and TV shows. The company states that this feature will empower users to make informed decisions about what they want to watch. A dedicated tab for 'Clips' has been provided within the Netflix mobile app. Users will also have the option to share these short videos on social media platforms or directly with their friends.
How Will This Feature Benefit Users?
According to reports, this feature will initially display short clips derived from web series and movies. If a user enjoys a particular short clip, they will have the option to watch the full movie or series, or add it to their watchlist. Looking ahead, there are plans to expand this feature to include podcasts, live programming, curated collections, and more. This expansion will further enhance the feature's utility, providing users with the option to consume short-form content even while browsing through movies or web series.
Netflix Has Conducted Such Experiments Before
This is not Netflix's first experiment involving short videos. In 2018, the company introduced a feature on its mobile app for 30-second vertical video previews, and in 2021, it introduced "Fast Laughs," which displayed funny clips in a vertical feed. Last year, the company announced plans to introduce another short-video feed—a move that has now culminated in the launch of "Clips."
