The Bihar government is set to roll out a major welfare scheme aimed at empowering women and boosting their financial independence. The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana will officially launch on September 26, 2025, with the first installment of ₹10,000 to be transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the program virtually, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will preside over the launch event in Bihar.

Scheme’s Reach and Beneficiaries

The government has set an ambitious target of transferring ₹7,500 crore to the accounts of 75 lakh women across the state.

Since the announcement, the scheme has generated widespread enthusiasm among both rural and urban women. So far, more than 1.11 crore applications have been received:

  • Nearly 1.07 crore women from rural areas, primarily linked to Jeevika self-help groups (SHGs), have applied.

  • Around 4.66 lakh women from urban regions have also submitted applications.

Additionally, lakhs of new women are enrolling in SHGs to become eligible for the scheme.

Objective of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana

The central goal of this scheme is to provide women with a financial boost to either start small businesses or expand existing ones. The ₹10,000 grant can be used for activities like:

  • Agriculture and allied sectors

  • Animal husbandry

  • Handicrafts

  • Tailoring and weaving

  • Other small-scale enterprises

Beyond the initial support, women who successfully grow their businesses will later be eligible for additional financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh. This tiered support system ensures sustained encouragement for entrepreneurship among women, fostering self-reliance and strengthening family incomes.

Eligibility Criteria

Not every applicant can avail of this scheme. To qualify, women must meet the following conditions:

  • Age must be between 18 and 60 years.

  • The household should include husband, wife, and unmarried children only.

  • Neither the applicant nor her husband should be an income tax payer.

  • Neither the applicant nor her husband should hold a government job (permanent or contractual).

  • The applicant must be a member of a self-help group (SHG) under the Jeevika program.

How to Apply

The application process has been designed separately for rural and urban women:

  • For rural women: Applications must be submitted through their village organizations. Women who are not yet part of an SHG will need to join one first.

  • For urban women: Applications can be made online via the official Jeevika website (www.brlps.in). However, women already enrolled in SHGs are not required to reapply online.

Why This Scheme Matters

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana is not just about financial aid; it is a step toward long-term social and economic transformation. By encouraging women to start or scale small businesses, the Bihar government aims to create an ecosystem where women can actively contribute to household income and community development.

This initiative is expected to not only improve women’s participation in the state economy but also reduce dependence on external sources of income.

Key Takeaway:
Bihar’s new women’s employment scheme promises to be a game changer. With direct financial aid, entrepreneurial support, and future incentives, the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana is designed to make women financially stronger and socially empowered.
