Diwali brings a special opportunity for investors this year as Muhurat Trading 2025 will be held on October 21, 2025. On this day, both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will allow trading for one hour, marking the beginning of the new financial year with prosperity and good fortune.

According to the official schedule, the Muhurat Trading session will run from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM, with a pre-open session from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM. While the stock market usually remains closed on Diwali, this symbolic session has been a tradition for decades.

Why is Muhurat Trading special?

Muhurat Trading is considered an auspicious event, believed to bring wealth and prosperity to participants. Historical data shows that in the last 16 years, markets have closed in the green on 13 occasions during this special session. For example, in 2024, the Sensex jumped 335 points to end at 79,724, while the Nifty gained 99 points.

A tradition with deep roots

The tradition of Muhurat Trading began at the BSE in 1957 and was later adopted by the NSE in 1992. Many investors prefer to buy stocks on this day with the belief that investments made during Diwali will yield returns throughout the year. For several newcomers, it also marks the opening of their very first demat or trading account.

What do investors gain from it?

The session is not limited to equities—futures, options, currency, and commodities are also traded. Although largely symbolic, it boosts market sentiment and investor confidence. Many traders align their annual investment strategies with this session, making it both a financial and spiritual milestone.

This year too, Diwali’s Muhurat Trading is expected to attract strong participation as investors look to start the festive season with optimism and prosperity.
