After all kinds of allegations from users, Mozilla has admitted that it welcomes people's feedback. Mozilla is a non-profit organization. It has made changes to its new terms of use. Last week Mozilla released new terms of use for Firefox, in which some words were used which made it seem that the company was getting broad ownership rights over users' data, that is, users' data was being accessed.

The first version of these terms said: "When you upload or input information through Firefox, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, global license to use your information to help you navigate, experience, and interact with online content through Firefox."

After this statement, users on social media strongly criticized it, which increased the pressure on the company. Now this controversial clause has been removed from the new terms of use and replaced with additional clarification.

The revised terms now say, “You grant Mozilla the rights necessary to operate Firefox, including your data stored in the manner described in the Firefox Privacy Notice. You also grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use the content you enter into Firefox in any way you choose. This does not give Mozilla ownership of that content.”

Mozilla’s stand

Mozilla clarified that the legal definition of ‘selling data’ is broad and changing. Many companies are unclear whether they fall into the category of ‘selling data’. We have heard users’ concerns, especially about the parts related to licensing. Our intention was just to clarify how Firefox works, but it has caused some confusion and concern.

Overall, the company says it is serious about user privacy and does not track users. Apart from this, it does not share the users' data with any third party agency nor does it trade the data.
