Haryana Lado Lakshmi Scheme Expanded: Mothers to Benefit If Children Score 80%, Income Limit Relaxed

The Haryana government has announced a major expansion of the Lado Lakshmi Yojana, bringing relief and new opportunities to thousands of families across the state. The latest changes, approved in a recent Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, focus strongly on women’s empowerment, children’s education, and social security. With revised eligibility rules and new categories added to the scheme, many more women are now expected to benefit financially.

The most notable update is the direct link between children’s performance and nutrition status and the financial assistance provided to their mothers. Along with this, the government has also relaxed the income limit, making the scheme accessible to a wider section of society.

Mothers to Qualify as ‘Lado Lakshmi’ If Children Score 80% or More

Under the revised guidelines, mothers whose children study in government schools and score 80% or more marks in Class 10 or Class 12 will now be eligible for benefits under the Lado Lakshmi Yojana. This move aims to encourage academic excellence, especially among girls, while ensuring greater parental involvement in education.

According to the government, the objective is not only to reward meritorious students but also to strengthen the role of families in supporting children’s education. By directly benefiting mothers, the scheme creates a strong incentive structure that links household welfare with educational outcomes.

Income Limit Relaxed by ₹80,000

Another significant change is the relaxation of the annual income limit. The Haryana government has allowed an additional income exemption of ₹80,000, which means many families that were earlier excluded will now fall within the eligibility bracket. This step is expected to substantially increase the number of beneficiaries and provide financial relief to lower- and middle-income households.

Officials believe that widening the income criteria will ensure that deserving families are not left out due to marginal income differences.

Scheme Divided Into Three Categories

To make the scheme more inclusive and targeted, the government has divided the Lado Lakshmi Yojana into three distinct categories:

  • First Category: Mothers of children studying in government schools who secure 80% or more marks in Class 10 or 12.

  • Second Category: Mothers of children who achieve grade-level proficiency in Classes 1 to 4 under central government education missions.

  • Third Category: Mothers of children registered on the nutrition tracker who were earlier malnourished or suffering from anemia but have now moved into the green zone after nutritional improvement.

This categorization ensures that the scheme supports not just academic excellence but also early learning outcomes and child nutrition, making it a holistic welfare initiative.

₹2,100 Assistance to Be Split Into Two Parts

The financial assistance under the scheme, amounting to ₹2,100, will now be disbursed in two stages. Of this, ₹1,100 will be transferred directly into the woman’s bank account, while the remaining ₹1,000 will be deposited as a fixed deposit (FD) by the government.

This fixed deposit cannot be withdrawn for at least five years, ensuring long-term financial security. In the unfortunate event of the woman’s untimely death, the nominee will receive the FD amount immediately.

According to government data, around 10.25 lakh women have applied for the scheme so far, and nearly 8 lakh women are currently receiving benefits. With the new expansion, an additional 1,02,027 women are expected to be included. Importantly, the government has clarified that while the scope has been expanded, the core eligibility conditions remain unchanged.

Relief for Haryana Roadways Drivers After 22 Years

Alongside the Lado Lakshmi Yojana update, the Cabinet also approved a long-pending decision affecting 347 senior Haryana Roadways drivers. These drivers, who were appointed on contract in 2002, will now be regularized with retrospective effect from 2002.

They will be brought under the Old Pension Scheme, making them eligible for arrears, family pension benefits, and General Provident Fund (GPF) facilities. This decision is being seen as a major relief for employees who had waited more than two decades for service regularization.

Other Key Cabinet Decisions

The Haryana Cabinet also cleared several other welfare-oriented decisions, including land allocation for a cowshed in Panchkula, changes to the HSIIDC land policy, and providing employment to a victim’s wife on humanitarian grounds in a special case.

According to the government, all these decisions reflect its commitment to social security, transparency, and inclusive development, with a strong focus on women and vulnerable sections of society.

Overall, the expanded Lado Lakshmi Yojana marks a significant step toward linking education, nutrition, and financial empowerment, offering tangible benefits to families across Haryana.
