According to the 'Cities on the Rise' report of professional networking platform LinkedIn released on Tuesday, tier-2 and tier-3 cities like Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, Vijayawada, Nashik and Raipur are rapidly emerging professional hubs, where new career opportunities are being created for people.
The report highlights cities like Rajkot, Agra, Madurai, Vadodara and Jodhpur as emerging growth centres. These cities have become a hotbed for working professionals who want to try their hand in new industries and grow their careers locally or are looking for a transfer.
Contribution of central and state governments
The report attributes the success of these emerging cities to policies of the central and state governments that promote local development. Nirjita Banerjee, career expert and senior managing editor, India, LinkedIn, said, "Tier-2 and tier-3 cities have now become the centres of India's economic transformation. Investments in Global Capability Centres (GCC), the boom of the local MSME sector and the government's vision of a 'developed India' are turning small cities into career hubs." He further added, "This means that many Indians no longer need to move to bigger cities for meaningful career progression. These 10 emerging cities are offering new opportunities across industries, verticals and roles."
Role of technology, pharma and finance sector
The report highlights the growing influence of technology, pharmaceuticals and financial companies in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. In this age of data and artificial intelligence (AI), tech companies are setting up their units in these cities, increasing the demand for local talent. Healthcare and pharma companies are creating new opportunities in Visakhapatnam and Vadodara, while major banks are booming in the financial services sector in Raipur, Agra and Jodhpur.

According to the report, six cities like Nashik, Raipur, Rajkot, Agra, Vadodara and Jodhpur are offering the most jobs in business development.
