 Social media

A mobile phone is not just for making calls but has become a part of our entire lives. It contains our personal photos, banking apps, WhatsApp chats, social media accounts, and many important documents. In such a situation, if the phone is stolen or lost, then instead of panicking, it is important to take the right steps immediately.

The Sanchaar Sathi portal will be helpful.

The first and most important thing to do immediately after the phone is stolen or lost is to register the phone on the government's Sanchaar Sathi portal. This portal has been created by the Department of Telecom (DoT) so that the stolen phone cannot be misused. The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) present in it works according to the unique IMEI number of every mobile phone. When your phone is blocked in this system, no one can use it with another SIM card.

What is the benefit of an IMEI blacklist?

If the IMEI number of the phone is blacklisted as soon as it is stolen, then that phone will not be active on any network. If the thief turns on that phone again, the mobile operator will immediately get an alert. This makes it easier to track the phone and increases the chances of getting it back.

How to block a stolen or lost mobile

For this, first go to the website www.sancharsaathi.gov.in in your browser. Click on the CEIR Block Stolen/Lost Mobile option given here. Now fill in your name, mobile number, email ID, phone's IMEI number, and other details in the form that opens. After this, upload a copy of the FIR or details related to the complaint. After filling in all the details, apply. As soon as the application is registered, your phone will be blocked immediately, and no one will be able to use it.

What if the phone is found?

If you get your phone back later, then you do not need to worry. For this, go to the Sanchaar Sathi portal again and choose the Unblock Found Mobile option.

Here, you have to enter the reference number of your previous report. After this, your phone will be unblocked and you will be able to use it normally.

Track the status of the report
On the Sanchar Sathi portal, you also get the option to track the status of the lost phone report. You can see how far your application has reached and what updates have been received.
