If you live in a village and work under MGNREGA, there's big news for you.  Recently, the government replaced the 20-year-old MGNREGA law with a new scheme called 'Viksit Bharat-G Ram G' (VB-G RAM G). Since then, millions of laborers and farmers in villages have been wondering what will happen to MGNREGA and whether they will get work under the new law. Those who already have an MGNREGA job card are especially concerned about whether their existing card will still be valid or if they will need to get a new one.

Many people feared that their old MGNREGA job cards would become useless after the new scheme was introduced. Now, the government has provided important clarification on this matter.

Will the old MGNREGA job card be valid under the G Ram G scheme?
Government officials have clarified that laborers who have an MGNREGA job card will be able to apply for work under the new rural employment law, Viksit Bharat G Ram G.  This means you don't need to worry. You can use your old MGNREGA job card to get work under the new 'G Ram G' scheme as well. There will be no difficulties for laborers during the transition from MGNREGA to the new scheme, and employment will not be affected.

The government wants to ensure that during the transition from the old scheme to the new one, laborers do not face any problems in getting work and that everything runs smoothly.

What is the Viksit Bharat G Ram G scheme?
The Viksit Bharat G Ram G scheme is considered a new and improved version of MGNREGA. This law was passed in the winter session of Parliament and has now become an act after receiving presidential assent. It will replace the nearly 20-year-old MGNREGA law and further improve the rural employment system.

When will the new scheme be implemented?
According to officials, the G Ram G scheme will be implemented from the next financial year. The central government will frame the rules and issue them. After that, states will have six months to join the scheme and prepare their own plans. However, the exact date of implementation has not yet been decided. The government says that the transition from MNREGA to the G Ram Ji scheme will be gradual and smooth. Therefore, the old MNREGA job cards will remain valid for applying for work under the new scheme. This will eliminate the need for laborers to obtain new cards or re-register.

Now, 125 days of guaranteed employment instead of 100
The biggest change in the new scheme is regarding the number of days of employment. Previously, MNREGA provided 100 days of work per year, but the G Ram Ji scheme has increased this to 125 days. This means that rural laborers will now have the opportunity to earn more.

Timely payment and compensation for delays
The new scheme includes a provision for weekly wage payments. Laborers will now receive payment for their work every week. If there is any delay in payment, the laborer will be entitled to compensation. The government has also made this new scheme quite stringent to ensure that the rights of the laborers are protected.

Under the new law, if a laborer applies for employment and does not receive work, they will be given an unemployment allowance.  Receiving this allowance will now be a legal right for the laborer.

Why is this scheme special for farmers and laborers?
The G Ram Ji scheme is not limited to just providing employment. Under this scheme, work related to water management, roads, ponds, fields, and livelihood activities will be undertaken in villages.
